Caterpillar Inc.’s new CB14, CB14 XW and CB14 full flush utility compactors share many features and operating characteristics that are available on the intermediate-sized machines, the CB-334E and CB-335E.
The CB14 has a compaction width of 31 in. (80 cm) while the CB14 XW uses a drum width of 39 in. (100 cm). The CB14 full flush version uses a 35 in. (90 cm) offset front drum that provides full flush compaction close to curbs, walls and other vertical obstructions.
All three models are powered by a quiet three-cylinder Cat C1.1 diesel engine that provides a gross power of 21.6 hp (16.1 kW). The engine is liquid-cooled and operates at 2,400 rpm. The engine meets U.S. Tier II and European EU Stage II emission control standards.
Their compact size makes them a practical choice for commercial site preparation, landscaping, small soil applications, patching, driveways, city streets, roads, alleys or adding paths to parks, recreation areas and small parking lots. In these applications, the tight turning radius and easy maneuverability make them an ideal piece of machinery.
The primary customers for these models are rental stores, landscaping contractors and large contractors that require support rollers. All of these customers require mobile machines that are easy to transport to different job sites on a daily basis. For the rental company, machine uptime is an important feature. These machines are often operated by less-experienced operator’s, making ease-of-operation a key consideration.
The operator’s station provides plenty of leg room and ensures a comfortable operating environment. The CB14 and CB14 XW have a high curb clearance, allowing them to work along vertical obstructions while the CB14 full flush model with its offset front drum provides total flush compaction on the right side.
In addition, the machines are quiet for the operator and spectators, enhancing productivity. Low sound levels make these new machines a match for commercial jobs when compaction must coincide with day-to-day business operations.
