Founder of Donald Smock Auction Company Inc. Passes Away at 65

Donald Smock loved building fences and his work projects around his farm. The great joy of his life was his granddaughter.

Donald C. Smock, 65, passed away Dec. 27, 2013, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis following complications of a stroke.

Mr. Smock was born July 10, 1948 in Waukegan, Ill., and was a former Carmel resident from 1975 until moving to Noblesville in 1987.

He retired as founder and CEO of Don Smock Auction Company Inc. in Pendleton and was a graduate of Continental Auctioneering School and National Auctioneer Appraisal Institute.

Mr. Smock was an active and faithful member of Rock Church Assembly of God in Pendleton where he participated in mission trips to Haiti and Nicaragua.

He enjoyed the past eight winters in Mesa, Ariz., with his wife and family, quad riding in the mountains and playing golf in the “Geezer League.” He loved building fences and his work projects around his farm. The great joy of his life was his granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Debi (Tess) Smock, whom he married on Nov. 10, 1973 in Burlington, Wis.; two children, MacKenzie Tess (husband, Ron) Shreve and Nic (wife, Samantha) Smock; granddaughter, Molly Hazel Smock all of Noblesville; two sisters, Sandy (husband, Jack) Mather of Edgewood, Iowa, Chris Lancour of Greenfield, Wis., and half-sister, Beverly Hinsenbrock of Clermont, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smock was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Smock; mother, Gertrude (Horton) Smock Tess; step-father, Roman Tess; and nephew, Will Lancour.

In recognition of Mr. Smock’s passion for Rock Church, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Rock Church Assembly of God, 6501 S. SR 67, Pendleton, Ind. 46064.
