At first, Giberson Enterprises wasn’t sure if the pre-cast concrete market would listen to its solution to rescue material from the scrap heap.

But after testing the water at the Manufactured Concrete Products Exposition, the company has decided to dive right in.

As part of its effort to show how those in this new market can benefit from the Eco-Crusher, an excavator-mounted jaw crusher, National Sales Manager Casey Reed and a team from Giberson’s New Jersey headquarters headed to Raleigh, N.C. There, they showed off the crusher’s capabilities to Lindsay Company.

Reed said precast and ready-mix companies tend to have a significant amount of waste they can’t dispose of because of the steel in the product.

That’s where the Eco-Crusher comes in. Reed said it is able to strip the concrete from the steel so that both products can be recycled. During the demonstration, the machine crushed manholes, box culverts and sewer drain pipes.

Reed said the crusher can handle 500 lbs. (227 kg) of steel in less than two hours or up to 1 ton (.9 t) a day. It can create aggregate product anywhere from .75 to 6 in. (1.9 to 15 cm).

“That’s money just sitting at these facilities,” Reed said.

With the Eco-Crusher, there is no limit to the length of rebar it can handle.

The demonstration proved to be a success for Giberson Enterprises.

“Whether they have their own excavator or have to hire someone with one, the Eco-Crusher is going to make people in this industry a lot of money from their waste. Either way, it’s a win-win when the Eco-Crusher is in the equation,” Reed said. CEG
