Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers has announced the results of a record-breaking auction held at the company’s facility in Denver, CO, on April 4-5, 2002.
The unreserved auction resulted in gross auction sales exceeding $20 million and was the largest auction ever held at the Ritchie Bros. Denver location. There were 2,196 people from 38 U.S. states and six other countries registered to bid on 1,762 trucks and equipment items. Buyers from outside of Colorado purchased more than 60 percent of the trucks and equipment.
“We had a tremendous turnout at the sale and good interest from Internet bidders — it was the biggest auction in our 19-year history in Colorado,” commented Scott Forke, divisional manager of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers. “We had a good selection of equipment, great attendance and the end result was strong prices throughout both days of the auction.”
Approximately 180 people registered to participate in the auction live and in real-time over the Internet using the company’s rbauction Bid-Live service. They spent more than $750,000, and were buyers or runner-up bidders on 8 percent of the lots broadcast over the Internet.
There are 27 upcoming unreserved auctions on the Ritchie Bros. calendar. Several will feature live Internet bidding.
